After the Pittsburgh Penguins' dominant first period, the San Jose Sharks swung momentum their way over the next two. And the Sharks ended up with a hard-earned home win, taking down the Pens, 4-3, after winning a shootout.
Ryane Clowe was the only player to score in the shootout, beating Marc-Andre Fleury in the third round. Kris Letang, Evgeni Malkin, and Pascal Dupuis all failed to score for the Penguins. Fleury let in three goals on 37 shots in the game.
Pittsburgh held 2-0 and 3-1 leads to end the first and second period, respectively, and failed to score on its four shots in overtime. San Jose couldn't put either of its shots in the net.
The win drops Pittsburgh to 8-3-3 on the year and moves San Jose to 7-4-0. The Penguins' 19 points ties with Toronto's 19 for the most in the Eastern Conference and the NHL.
