The Penguins and Sabres are off to a high-scoring start to their game on Saturday evening at the Consol Energy Center.
After one period, Pittsburgh leads 4-1.
Jason Williams got the Penguins on the board with a tally at 2:17 in the opening period. Alexandre Picard and Craig Adams earned the assists on that goal.
Pittsburgh then got two more scores from Simon Despres and Evgeni Malkin to take an early 3-0 lead before Buffalo struck back with a goal from Thomas Vanek, his 17th goal of the season, with 12:55 left in the period.
The frantic scoring in the period ended with Malkin scoring another goal for Pittsburgh at 13:30. Now, the Penguins will look to make that lead stand up for the rest of the night.
