The Penguins followed up a four-goal attack in the first period with two more tallies in the second to take a 6-1 lead against the Sabres on Saturday night at the CONSOL Energy Center.
James Neal notched his 18th goal of the season on the powerplay :53 into the period to put Pittsburgh up 5-1. He was assisted by Evegeni Malkin, now with three points in the game, and Matt Niskanen.
Deryk Engelland then scored his second goal of the season at the 17:54 mark. Pascal Dupuis and Arron Asham assisted on the goal. For Dupuis, the helper was the 300th point of his NHL career.
The Penguins hold a 21-15 lead in the shot department and have now scored on both of their powerplays. They look to be in pretty good shape heading into the final frame.
