Craig Adams tallied a goal and an assist, and a fellow role player, Arron Asham, also scored as the Penguins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night, 3-2.
Adams scored in the second period after a great pass from Sidney Crosby. Jamie McBain of the Hurricanes answered late in the period to tie the game. But the Pens pulled away in the third period. First, Paul Martin made an aggressive pass up the ice to Adams, who sent it to Asham, who unleashed a slapshot to make it 2-1. Then Pascal Dupuis picked up a rebound on an Evgeni Malkin shot to put the Pens up 3-1. McBain’s second goal of the game, which came on a power play with about seven minutes left, was too little, too late for the Hurricanes.
Brent Johnson registered 30 saves for the Pens.
