Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press tweets that the NHL has passed a plan to place NHL teams in four conferences, as opposed to the current six divisions and two conferences.
Nhl has passed four conference realignment with all teams to play one another in home-at-home
We’ll see how this affects the Penguins. The Pens had been concerned about a realignment possibility that would move them into a division with other northeastern teams, but would move them out of the Philadelphia Flyers’ division. The Flyers were against such a plan, too, since the two teams have a strong rivalry.
Rob Rossi of the Trib tweets that he hears the NHL understands where the Pens and Flyers are coming from and wants to allow them to continue playing one another regularly.
1 thing i’ve heard on this end about #NHL realignment is that maintaining the rivalry between #Pens #Flyers will be considered high priority
We’ll see what happens. No matter what, some serious changes appear to be in the works, not only for the Penguins, but for all NHL teams.
