Local columnist/troll John Steigerwald recently attracted notice for using his column in the Washington (Pennsylvania) Observer-Reporter to speculate about the possibility that the decline Washington (D.C.) Capitals' Alex Ovechkin is due to steroid use. That got Steigerwald some national attention of the sort he hadn't received since he said Brian Stow, the fan who was badly beaten and wound up in a coma after wearing Giants gear to Dodgers Stadium, got what was coming to him, because grown men shouldn't wear sports uniforms. I bet the attention felt awesome both times!
↵Steigerwald is, plainly, an idiot and a jerk (as Chris Mueller put it at the time, "'When I grow up, I want to be just like John Steigerwald.' --No one, ever"), and no one would have blamed Ovechkin for simply ignoring him. But he didn't, according to NHL.com's Slava Malamud:
↵↵↵Ovi made fun of the "steroid article" ("That's how I scored - pop a steroid and there you go!") but was upset too. Called author a moron
↵
"That's how I scored - pop a steroid and there you go!" is classic stuff. Good for Ovechkin for firing back.
