NHL Power Rankings 2011: Penguins Sitting Comfortably In Top Three

The NHL power rankings have been aggregated and the Pittsburgh Penguins are placing high on the experts' lists.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten off to a hot start in their 2011-2012 season, running off a 16-9-4 record and currently only one point in back of the streaking Philadelphia Flyers for first place in the Atlantic Division.

The Penguins may have lost their last two games, but the NHL Power Rankings have the Penguins averaging out to be the No. 2 ranked team overall in the NHL as of December 6.

The Pens come in behind the Boston Bruins and ahead of the Detroit Red Wings as one of the elite teams in hockey. FOX Sports on MSN drops the Penguins to fourth place, but only due to the ridiculous 12-2 run that has been rattled off by the New York Rangers. The Hockey News ranks Pittsburgh No. 1 overall, as they have put them in the top spot for two consecutive weeks, although they will probably lose that spot next week due to their recent struggles.

Most sports pundits continue to be impressed by this strong Pittsburgh team, pegging them as legitimate contenders to go far in the postseason. Many Penguins fans would be compelled to agree.
