Jordan Staal Won't Face Suspension After Punching Brandon Prust

The Penguins' Jordan Staal will play against the New York Islanders tonight despite receiving a match penalty in last night's game against the Rangers for punching Brandon Prust with a gloved hand:

Staal received a match penalty Tuesday night during a game against the Rangers in New York. That calls for an automatic one-game suspension, but it also triggers a review by the league with the option of rescinding the suspension.

You can check out the video below of Staal throwing the punch after Prust knocked over Tyler Kennedy - it's pretty brutal. Prust, who returned later in the game, sounded like he took it in stride, however.

"I think it was just all reaction," Prust told reporters. "I came in and hit a guy, he kind of came in to stick up for him. He just threw a punch and happened to connect."

Also, the Penguins have recalled Eric Tangradi from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as they continue to deal with the absences of Sidney Crosby and Mark Letestu. It's also unclear whether Evgeni Malkin will play tonight.
