Sidney Crosby Reportedly Not Cleared To Play Only Because He's On Vacation

Dejan Kovacevic clarifies reports, including from his own paper, that Sidney Crosby is still "unable to work out" due to his concussion. Those reports, according to Kovacevic, aren't nearly as bad as they might have initially sounded. Crosby is unable to work out right now because he hasn't been cleared by the Penguins' medical staff. The reason he hasn't been cleared by the Pens' medical staff, though, is that he's simply on vacation, and the Pens aren't yet worried about checking him and getting him prepared for the 2011-2012 season.

And the reason he hasn't been cleared for additional skating or workouts, plain and simple, is that he hasn't been checked. Because he's on vacation. Because there's no urgency in mid-May to hit the ice in preparation for a September training camp.

There's nothing more to it.

Well, that's a relief. Back when those reports emerged of Crosby not working out yet, it appeared easy to imagine that Crosby's concussion issues might stretch on a lot longer, perhaps even into next season. Now it looks like the worrying might have been premature.
