Trevor Gillies Re-Signs With New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have re-signed Trevor Gillies to a two-way deal. Gillies was infamous as one of the key players in the horrible Islanders vs. Penguins mess this winter. You may remember Gillies as the gentleman who taunted Eric Tangradi while Tangradi was on the ice with a concussion.

Gillies received a nine-game suspension for his role in that particular bloodbath. Then, right after returning, he received a 10-game suspension for delivering a shot to the head of the Wild's Cal Clutterbuck, giving Clutterbuck what was probably a concussion.

Gillies is a career minor-leaguer, and let's hope it stays that way. He racked up 165 penalty minutes last season despite only serving about 120 minutes on the ice. He has racked up penalty minutes like crazy in his minor-league games, as well. The guy's a goon, not a hockey player, and he serves no particular purpose on the ice other than to deliver ugly hits (and then crow about it). If you want hockey to beat like pro wrestling, then you probably like guys like Gillies. If you like hockey to be a sport, you probably don't. You stay classy, Trevor.
