The Pens picked up two more points with a 2-1 shootout win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. It was their third win in a row.
Jamie McBain had three goals this season coming into Tuesday’s game, and two of them came against the Penguins in early December. He added another one against the Pens two minutes into the first period to put the Hurricanes up early.
Late in the period, however, Evgeni Malkin stole the puck from Eric Staal, then flipped it over Cam Ward (who had 40 saves) to tie the game at one.
That was the score when the two teams entered the shootout, and goals by Malkin and James Neal put the Pens over the top, 2-1.
Malkin and Neal continue to provide the bulk of the offense for the Pens — Malkin now has seven goals in his past six games, and Neal has three in his last three.
Marc-Andre Fleury had 25 saves against the Hurricanes for the Pens.
The Penguins face off against the Rangers in New York Thursday night. They are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference with 52 points.
