The Pittsburgh Penguins' star forward Evgeni Malkin was named the Kontinental Hockey League's (KHL) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.
Malkin has been playing with Metallurg Magnitogorsk since the NHL lockout was enacted back on Sept. 15 and has been able to translate his success in North America back to Russia. Having registered nine points (three goals and six assists) in three games this past week, Malkin was honored as the top attacker over that span.
In total, Malkin has registered seven goals and 17 assists for a total of 24 points in 16 games played in the KHL this season. He is currently tied for third in total points in the league and is second in assists.
In addition to Malkin, Nail Yakupov of the Edmonton Oilers was named the league's rookie of the week. The No. 1 overall selection in June's NHL Entry Draft has been playing with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and managed to score three goals in two games this past week.
