The Pittsburgh Penguins had six more games canceled on Thursday as the NHL has officially called off all games until at least Jan. 14. Seth Rorabaugh of Empty Netters points out the Dec. 31, Jan. 4 and Jan. 8 home games against the Capitals, Panthers and Lightning, as well as the Jan. 5, Jan. 11 and Jan. 12 games at the Devils, Ducks and Coyotes, will not be played.
The NHL has now canceled a little over half of its regular-season schedule, including all games from Oct. 11 to Jan. 14. The lockout has now covered over three months and this may be the final round of two-week cancellations.
Travis Hughes of SB Nation points out that that the season is not likely to begin any later than mid-January, and if an agreement between the NHL and its players does not come before that time, the rest of the season will be lost.
