Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins has been named the NHL's first star of the week, Dave Molinari notes. Ryan Miller and Alex Ovechkin were second and third.

The Pens have been the NHL's hottest team for over a month now, and Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury have been the biggest reasons why. Last week, Malkin scored two goals and had three assists in an 8-4 blowout of the Winnipeg Jets. He then scored twice in a 5-1 win over the Predators on Thursday. He was shut out in the Pens' 8-4 loss against the Senators on Saturday, but he had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.

He and the Pens will look to continue their hot play with matchups against the New York Islanders at home on Tuesday and on the road on Thursday.
