Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins has been named the NHL's first star of the week, Dave Molinari notes. Ryan Miller and Alex Ovechkin were second and third.
↵The Pens have been the NHL's hottest team for over a month now, and Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury have been the biggest reasons why. Last week, Malkin scored two goals and had three assists in an 8-4 blowout of the Winnipeg Jets. He then scored twice in a 5-1 win over the Predators on Thursday. He was shut out in the Pens' 8-4 loss against the Senators on Saturday, but he had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.
↵He and the Pens will look to continue their hot play with matchups against the New York Islanders at home on Tuesday and on the road on Thursday.
