The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their recent run of stellar play Saturday night in beating the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 at the Pepsi Center. With the victory, the Penguins extended their winning streak to a season high of five games, as they dominated this contest from start to finish.
Marc-Andre Fleury played well all evening for the Pens, stopping 35 shots and never allowing the Avs to sustain any momentum game. Fleury, who is tied with Tom Barrasso for Pittsburgh's career shutout record with 22, came close to achieving the mark before Matt Hunwick scored on a rebound goal late in the third period. Evgeni Malkin, Arron Asham, Richard Park and Deryk Engelland all scored for Pittsburgh, while Steve Sullivan chipped in with a goal and an assist.
The Pens improved their record to 38-21-5 with the win, while Colorado (33-29-4) now trails Dallas by three points for the last spot in the Western Conference playoff race. Pittsburgh will look to keep their winning streak going on Monday night when it faces the Phoenix Coyotes at the CONSOL Energy Center.
