2012 NHL Playoffs, Penguins Vs. Flyers Game 3: Pittsburgh Embarassed In 8-4 Loss

The Pittsburgh Penguins hit rock bottom Sunday afternoon, and are now on the brink of their second consecutive exit in the first round of the playoffs, suffering an 8-4 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday.

The Penguins were keeping things close, trailing 3-2 after one period, and 6-4 after two, however the lack of defensive play kept the Penguins from making a comeback. The Flyers added goals by Claude Giroux and Maxim Talbot to add exclamation points to the victory.

The Penguins were able to outshoot the Flyers 35-34, but Philadelphia took advantage of their opportunities more, making the Pittsburgh defense look silly at times.

Marc-Andre Fleury continued to struggle mightily, allowing 6 goals on 28 shots faced. He was replaced at the start of the third period by Brent Johnson, who didn't fare much better.

The contest was marred by constant fighting, resulting in not one, but two full-fledged brawls. All in all, 148 penalty minutes were dished out in the game.

The Flyers hold a commanding 3-0 series lead and are one win away from eliminating the Penguins. Game 4 is will be played Wednesday in Philadelphia. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
