The Penguins announced on Thursday the signing of 27-year old forward Philippe Dupuis to a one-year contract worth $600,000. Dupuis spent his 2011 season with the Toronto organization, playing for the AHL Marlies.
If Dupuis makes his way to the NHL and sees the ice for the Penguins, the team will have an interesting problem on their hand regarding the name on his jersey. You see, Pascal Dupuis has been the sole owner of the Dupuis jersey in Pittsburgh during his time with the team. Now there are two players on the team named "P. Dupuis" and no, somehow they aren't related.
Philippe Dupuis has appeared in 116 NHL games for the Avalanche and Maple Leafs, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists. He has never appeared in a postseason game.
