NHL Free Agency 2012: Alexander Semin Reportedly Interested In Signing With Penguins

With Zach Parise off to the Minnesota Wild and Steve Sullivan departed for the Phoenix Coyotes, the Pittsburgh Penguins are down to secondary options for scoring help. Whether it be through a trade or free agency, the team will be looking to add someone who can help them offensively, and Alexander Semin is still without a team. He's reportedly interested in playing for the Penguins, but he might not see eye-to-eye with the team in terms of his long-term value.

Semin would be a great one or two-year high salary gamble, perhaps with a large option at the end of the contract, but his inconsistent play and reputation as a guy with a poor attitude will make teams reluctant to sign him to a long-term deal. Eventually, Semin is going to have to bite the bullet and take a short-term deal if no one is interested in offering him terms that he deems favorable. But more likely than not, someone is going to take a chance on him.
