The Pirates are now down to just one Indian-born pitcher after cutting Dinesh Patel. There hasn't been any confirmation that Rinku Singh is still with the team, but there's no reason to think he isn't - he posted good numbers last year, and the Pirates promoted him at the end of the season.
↵The move to cut Patel isn't much of a surprise. Singh is a prospect because he's tall and left-handed and has good numbers, but Patel is a short righty who struggled at the lowest level of the U.S. minors this year. There isn't much reason to keep a player like that. Hopefully, Singh will do the duo proud next year - he could potentially start at Class A West Virginia. Patel, meanwhile, has a lot to be proud of: he caught the attention of a major-league team while playing a sport he hardly knew anything about, and he managed to stick in the minors for two years. Good for him.
