Baseball America's list of the top ten Pirates prospects are out, and it unsurprisingly features 2010 top pick Jameson Taillon at No. 1. Actually, three of the top five spaces are occupied by pitchers who have yet to make their professional debuts - Taillon, Stetson Allie, and Luis Heredia. That shows not only how promising these pitchers are, but how much will have to go right for the Bucs to see their top prospects reach their full potential. There's also another very young pitcher (2009 draftee Zack Von Rosenberg) at No. 9.
↵2009 top pick Tony Sanchez, who hit well in 2010 until getting shut down after being hit in the jaw with a pitch, is at No. 2. (Sanchez, by the way, has a new and very active Twitter account in which he says he thinks he'll be at Class AA this year.) No. 4 is outfielder Starling Marte. That's higher than a lot of prospect lists have ranked him, but I don't think that's unreasonable given his tools.
↵You can compare BA's list to my last prospect list, which I wrote in September. My top five goes Taillon, Sanchez, Bryan Morris, Allie and Marte.
