Butler native and Mt. Lebanon graduate Don Kelly is headed to the ALCS to play the Texas Rangers as a member of the Detroit Tigers. And a somehow important-looking member, too - the Detroit Free Press calls Kelly "the ultimate utility player."
↵Well, not really. Kelly doesn't hit well (although he's improved a lot since he started his major-league career with the Pirates a few years ago - back then he couldn't hit at all) and he doesn't play middle infield much anymore, now playing mostly in the infield and outfield corners. But he collected 11 at-bats in the Tigers' divisional series against the Yankees, including a first-inning homer in Thursday night's Game 5.
↵Kelly is the brother-in-law of Pirates second baseman Neil Walker. He currently lives in Wexford.
