The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to upgrade their short stop position in free agency and have been rumored to be lucking at players such as Rafael Furcal and other veterans. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Pirates are close to signing free agent short stop Clint Barmes.
Barmes was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies and spent his time with the club through the 2010 season but was traded to the Houston Astros in 2010 for Felipe Paulino. Barmes hit .244 for the Astros with 12 homeruns and 39 RBI. For his career, Barmes is a career .252 hitter at the plate with an OPS of .702.
