Baseball America Ranks Three Pirates Prospects In Top 100

Baseball America has released its list of the top 100 prospects in baseball. The Nationals' Bryce Harper is No. 1, Angels outfielder Mike Trout is No. 2, and Yankees catcher Jesus Montero is No. 3. Three Pirates rank in the top 100 - Jameson Taillon at No. 11, Tony Sanchez at No. 46, and Stetson Allie at No. 79.

Three players is a somewhat modest total for a team in the Pirates' position, but they graduated Pedro Alvarez (who was No. 8 last year) in 2010, and many of their most interesting minor leaguers right now (like the bevy of pitching prospects who were at the Pirates' affiliate in State College last year, such as Zack Von Rosenberg and Colton Cain) haven't yet been pros long enough to make one of these lists. (True, Taillon and Allie haven't pitched as pros at all yet, but when you're one of the top prospects in the previous year's draft, you tend to get a pass for that.)

Of the three they picked, Taillon is likely to start the season at West Virginia, while Sanchez will probably be at Altoona. Allie should be at either West Virginia or State College.
