Five Bradenton Marauders Prospects Make Florida State League All-Star Team

According to a Pirates press release, five Bradenton Marauders player have been named to the Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star Team: catcher Ramon Cabrera, first baseman Aaron Baker, second baseman Jarek Cunningham, and pitchers Kyle McPherson and Brett Lorin.

Of those, Cunningham, McPherson and Lorin made my list of the Pirates' top 30 prospects last week. Cunningham has a ridiculous 31 extra-base hits so far this year, but has struggled to control the strike zone. McPherson has been the biggest breakout performer in the Pirates' system, and took a no-hitter into the ninth inning earlier this week. After missing most of last season due to injury, Lorin has pitched very well, striking out 45 batters while walking only eight in 44.1 innings.

Cabrera is batting .336 with a .403 on-base percentage at a very reasonable age (21) for the Class A+ level, but he's very small, at 5-foot-7, which I think makes him more of a marginal prospect. Still, he has a shot. Baker, 23, has a .784 OPS and is a fringe prospect.
