Pirates Place Jose Tabata On Disabled List

The Pirates have placed outfielder Jose Tabata on the disabled list after he was injured in Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Tabata collapsed while running past first base and had to be carried out on a stretcher. He was up and about in the clubhouse afterwards, so it doesn't look likely that the injury is too serious, but evidently it's serious enough that he'll need to sit out a couple weeks.

The Pirates have recalled infielder Josh Harrison to take his place on the roster. Harrison was recently demoted and was expected to return to the team soon anyway.

In the meantime, Alex Presley will take most of Tabata's outfield at-bats. Presley, of course, homered in his first 2011 game with the Pirates on Tuesday. If he performs well for the next couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see whether the Bucs continue to find playing time for him once Tabata returns.
