After N.L. manager Bruce Bochy not only missed an opportunity to add Andrew McCutchen to the 2011 All-Star roster the first time around (along with the fans, the players, and everyone else involved in this sordid process) and then passed on him again in order to take the demonstrably-inferior Andre Ethier, I didn't think there was any way McCutchen would ever make the team. But he has - Ryan Braun dropped out, and Bochy finally decided to include McCutchen as his replacement.
The Bucs made the announcement that McCutchen would be joining Joel Hanrahan on the N.L. roster during Saturday night's game against the Chicago Cubs, and the fans greeted the news with an ovation.
McCutchen has made dramatic steps forward in his third year in the league, getting on base frequently and playing great defense. He was a deserving All-Star from the very beginning, and everyone involved made mistakes by not including him earlier. Finally, though, Bochy made the right move.
