Pirates To Demote Pedro Ciriaco, Perhaps To Make Room For Ronny Cedeno

Rob Biertempfel tweets that the Pirates are about to demote little-used shortstop Pedro Ciriaco to Class AAA, probably to make room for shortstop Ronny Cedeno to return from a concussion.

That should help the Pirates. Chase D'Arnaud, who has started in Cedeno's place, has often made excellent plays (like his brilliant toss to second to bail out Charlie Morton in the first inning against the Reds on Monday), but his defense has been inconsistent, and he hasn't hit much, either. He'll probably start again in the future, but for now, Cedeno is the better player.

Biertempfel also writes that the Pirates could have four new players in uniform against the Cardinals on Friday - Cedeno, new reliever Jason Grilli, and perhaps Jason Jaramillo (who would replace Eric Fryer as the team's backup catcher) and Steve Pearce (who would improve the Pirates' lineup against lefties).
