Pirates Trade Tim Wood To Rangers

The Pirates have dealt reliever Tim Wood to the Texas Rangers, either for a player to be named later or cash.

Wood pitched well for Class AAA Indianapolis and has pretty good stuff, but he got destroyed at the major-league level, with eight walks and five runs allowed in eight innings, to go along with only two strikeouts. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle even used him in some high-leverage situations, including an 11th-inning appearance against the Cleveland Indians in which he put two batters on and then allowed a game-winning, three-run homer to Cord Phelps.

The Pirates probably will just end up with a little bit of cash for Wood, which is really all he's worth. He had been on the 40-man roster.
