John Bowker To Join Phillies After Trade

The Pirates have traded outfielder John Bowker to the Phillies, and it looks like he'll be joining the big-league club. The Pirates' return is not yet known, but it will probably be minimal.

Bowker joined the Pirates after being traded with Joe Martinez in the deal that sent Javier Lopez to San Francisco. Neither Bowker nor Martinez are still with the Pirates.

Playing Class AAA baseball isn't that bad of a gig, but it's still got to be exciting and heartening for Bowker to join a playoff-bound team at the major-league level after spending most of the year in the minors.

The Phillies are getting an outfielder who has consistently hit minor-league pitching but has never really done much in the majors. He hasn't had a ton of chances, and he recently turned 28, so there's some chance he could put up decent numbers in a bench role.
