The Pirates have traded outfielder John Bowker to the Phillies, and it looks like he'll be joining the big-league club. The Pirates' return is not yet known, but it will probably be minimal.
↵Bowker joined the Pirates after being traded with Joe Martinez in the deal that sent Javier Lopez to San Francisco. Neither Bowker nor Martinez are still with the Pirates.
↵Playing Class AAA baseball isn't that bad of a gig, but it's still got to be exciting and heartening for Bowker to join a playoff-bound team at the major-league level after spending most of the year in the minors.
↵The Phillies are getting an outfielder who has consistently hit minor-league pitching but has never really done much in the majors. He hasn't had a ton of chances, and he recently turned 28, so there's some chance he could put up decent numbers in a bench role.
