The Yankees, Tigers, Rangers, Phillies, Brewers and Diamondbacks all clinched divisional championships some time ago, and so the Pirates' matchup against the Brewers in their final game of the season Wednesday night doesn't mean a whole lot, at least not to the Pirates. (The Brewers are still fighting with the Diamondbacks for home-field advantage.) But both wild card races are, surprisingly, still alive on the last day of the season.
↵Well, the one in the American League isn't necessarily much of a surprise. There, the Rays and Red Sox are knotted at 90-71. David Price and the Rays take on the Yankees Wednesday night, while Jon Lester pitches in Baltimore.
↵In the National League, the Cardinals have made a surprising playoff push and are now knotted with the Braves at 89-72. (That the Braves have lost their last four hasn't hurt.) Chris Carpenter and the Cards take on the Astros in Houston Wednesday night, while Tim Hudson and the Braves play the Phillies.
