Bryce Harper Tops List Of Best South Atlantic League Prospects; Jameson Taillon Fourth

Baseball America ranks Jameson Taillon the fourth-best prospect in the South Atlantic League in a very good year for the league. Ahead of him were Bryce Harper of the Nationals, Manny Machado of the Orioles, and Jurickson Profar of the Rangers. Harper, Taillon, and Machado were the first through third picks of the 2010 MLB Draft, respectively. Harper hit brilliantly for Hagerstown before being promoted all the way to Class AA, where he held his own.

Other than Taillon, no Pirates were represented, which is a little disappointing, since the Pirates' South Atlantic League entry, the West Virginia Power, featured a number of big-bonus players, including  Zack Von Rosenberg, Colton Cain and Drew Maggi, along with 2009 supplemental pick Victor Black and second-rounder Brooks Pounders. None of those players had breakouts in 2011, although Cain and Pounders performed well.

Taillon will likely be at Class A+ Bradenton next season, perhaps along with Gerrit Cole, the top overall pick in the 2011 draft.
