Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit characterizes the possibility that he will return to the team in 2012 as "slim":
↵↵↵"The last couple days I've just been trying to enjoy it," Doumit said. "I know the probability of me being back is probably slim, but I've just been trying to enjoy the last couple of days and soak it all in."

The Pirates have an option on Doumit, but it covers both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and they probably won't want to pay him for both years, given that Doumit is injury-prone and plays a position where players age horribly. From the same article, Clint Hurdle makes it sound like the Pirates will decline the option:
↵↵↵"In Ryan's case, there has been a history [of injuries] there," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He's going to have an opportunity to go out and see what the [free-agent] market has. I don't think we want to close doors on anybody."

As I note over at Bucs Dugout, Doumit and Paul Maholm are the last remaining links to those terrible Dave Littlefield teams of the mid-aughts. It's not Doumit and Maholm's fault those teams were terrible, obviously, and if they do go, I'll miss them.
