The Pittsburgh Pirates are interested in retaining the services of right-handed relief pitcher Jason Grilli, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. Rosenthal states that the Pirates are interested in using the 36-year-old free agent as a set-up man. However, other clubs are apparently interested in utilizing him as a closer.

Grilli has spent the last two seasons as a member of the Pirates and has recorded a 3-7 overall record in 92 games, in addition to a 2.76 ERA with 127 strikeouts. In 2012, he earned $1.1 million and recorded a 2.91 ERA with 90 strikeouts and two saves in 64 appearances.

Originally chosen with the No. 4 overall selection in the 1997 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants, Grilli went on to make his major league debut with the Florida Marlins in 2000. In 2003, he was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 2003 Rule 5 draft.

In 10 seasons in the major leagues, he has spent time with the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers.
