The Pittsburgh Pirates traded infielder Yamaico Navarro to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for pitcher Jhondaniel Medina on Friday, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The Pirates had designated Navarro for assignment earlier this week, meaning they had 10 days to place him on waivers, trade him, or release him.

Navarro has 168 career plate appearances in the Majors. In those opportunities he has posted just a .191/.244/.250 line. Of his 29 career hits, just five have went for extra bases. He did show more pop at the triple-A in 2012, where hit hit nine homers, 14 doubles, and three triples. He is still just 25 years old and is under club control until 2018.

Medina is a 19-year-old right-hander from Venezuela. He has played rookie ball since 2010, where has shown the ability to get strikeouts, fanning 8.9 batters per nine innings in minor league action. He has also limited opponents' power, allowing just three homers in 705 batters faced.
