Edwin Jackson Thanks Pirates Fans For Twitter Campaign

You may have missed it if you aren't on Twitter or you were sleeping, but Wednesday night, Pirates fans (including bloggers for Raise The Jolly Roger and the Mc Effect) launched a campaign to lure free agent Edwin Jackson to the Pirates. It won't work, of course -- it's doubtful Jackson cares too much about this, and his agent, Scott Boras, certainly doesn't care. But it was all in good fun. Here's a little of what I had to say, tweeting from my Bucs Dugout account.

@ej36 Come to Pittsburgh, where fellow former Dodgers prospects like Andy LaRoche and Delwyn Young reached their full potential

↵

@ej36 Roberto Clemente, I mean! Roberto Clemente!

↵

@ej36 Remember when you played for the Rays? Well, we have EVEN MORE PEOPLE IN THE STANDS THAN THAT

↵

@ej36 Come to Pittsburgh, where baseball fans spend at least six whole weeks a year not being bitterly disappointed yet! #ejaxtobucs

↵

@ej36 No but seriously, come to Pittsburgh. We've got the best fans in the world. We wouldn't still be here if we weren't.

↵

@ej36 And if you do well here, we'll remember you for a long, long time.

Anyway, Jackson responded Thursday morning:

Thanks to the #BucsNation for the support It is very much appreciated!

I'd never heard of "#BucsNation" before, except in reference to SB Nation's Tampa Bay Bucs blog, so I clicked on the hashtag, and sure enough, it's for Tampa Bay Bucs fans. It's a nice gesture anyway.

The Pirates have been loosely connected to Jackson a couple times this offseason, but they aren't known to have actually made an offer. Jackson would be a fantastic addition to the Pirates' thin rotation.
