Justin Wilson, Two Other Indianapolis Pitchers Combine For Class AAA No-Hitter

Pirates pitching prospect Justin Wilson and relievers Jose Diaz and Doug Slaten combined for a no-hitter for Class AAA Indianapolis against the Durham Bulls on Sunday, winning the game 2-0.

Wilson pitched 7.1 innings, striking out nine while walking two. Diaz finished the eighth, and Slaten pitched the ninth.

Wilson has had success moving through the minors, but his Achilles heel so far has been his control. Obviously, if he can continue to have more outings like this one, in which he strikes out four times as many as he walks, he's likely to have a solid big-league career. Even if not, his stuff could make him a decent reliever for a while.

In any case, Class AAA no-hitters are nothing to sneeze at. I believe this is the last one the Pirates have had since 2005, when Ian Snell -- another pitcher with good stuff and control issues -- did it in 2005.
