The Pirates have shipped reliever Evan Meek to Indianapolis, and will soon announce who will replace him on the 25-man roster.

#Pirates optioned Evan Meek to Indianapolis after the game. No corresponding move yet, but could be LHP Doug Slaten.

Clint Hurdle is known to prefer two lefties in his bullpen, and Slaten is left-handed. He is not, however, particularly good, despite only giving up one run so far this year. Fellow Class AAA lefty Danny Moskos likewise has a mediocre track record, and on top of that, he has walked seven batters in 7.1 innings this season.

Whatever's going on here, it's probably not about Meek's eventual replacement. It's about Meek, who doesn't throw as hard as he used to and whose game currently relies too heavily on 92 MPH fastballs. Meek has thrown 9.2 innings this year, striking out six and walking one while allowing a homer and six earned runs.
