Through four-and-a-half innings on Friday, the Pirates are behind 3-1 against Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds.
The Reds scored one in the second inning when Jay Bruce doubled and Chris Heisey had a bunt RBI single to third. In the fourth, Heisey tripled to left, then came home when Ryan Hanigan grounded a double down the line past third baseman Pedro Alvarez.
In the bottom of the inning, the Pirates scored one on an Alvarez sacrifice fly, but blew a shot at a bigger inning. Clint Barmes doubled to left, and the Bucs made a poor decision to send Garrett Jones home all the way from first; he was out by a mile.
In the top of the fifth, the Reds got an RBI single from Brandon Phillips to make it 3-1.
Johnny Cueto has been very effective so far, striking out three and walking none. Kevin Correia has one strikeout and one walk.
