Ladies and gentlemen, this is what a thrashing looks like. The Pirates' Class AAA team in Indianapolis three-hit the Rochester Red Wings Monday night en route to a 16-0 victory.
↵Justin Wilson, who has alternated brilliant outings and awful ones for much of the season, pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out six and walking none. Evan Meek then pitched two hitless innings of his own.
↵Meanwhile, the offense piled up its 16 runs without the benefit of a homer, putting up six-run innings in both the second and seventh. Starling Marte singled, doubled and tripled; Yamaico Navarro had two doubles; and Brandon Boggs had three hits. (Jeff Clement, who many Pirates fans hope will be called up as the Pirates begin road interleague play on Tuesday, was not in the lineup.)
↵What does it all mean? Probably not much. Of all the players mentioned above, Marte and Wilson are the only ones who look like they might be more than role players in the majors. But this was a wild burst of offense from an Indianapolis team that scored one run in a six-game stretch back in April.
