Through the first three innings, the Pirates and Brewers had a combined two hits. That changed, and quickly. Milwaukee tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving it a 5-1 lead midway through Saturday night's contest at Miller Park.
With two runners already on, shortstop Cody Ransom singled to score both for the Brewers. In the next at bat, Brooks Conrad put two more runs on the scoreboard following a homer to right field.
Pittsburgh also had some success at the plate during the fourth inning, as Garrett Jones launched a home run to deep center field.
Pirates starter Erik Bedard has already left the game after 3.2 innings.
