As a Pirates fan, you might find this odd, given that Doumit can't play defense, never seems to be able to play a full season, and is now in his 30s. That's because it is odd, particularly given that the 2012 Twins are in last place and are extremely unlikely to contend this year or next. Doumit hits well enough for a catcher, certainly well enough to put up with the injuries and the D. But a multiyear contract for a player like this? At least when the Pirates signed Doumit to a multiyear deal, he was young. He's not anymore. But hey -- good luck, Minnesota!
