The Pittsburgh Pirates came back on Tuesday night to even their series against the Colorado Rockies with a 6-2 victory at Coors Field. Starter Erik Bedard was steady, allowing just one unearned run in 6.2 innings of work. Bedard danced around eight hits and four walks to keep the Rockies in check, allowing the offense to break things open with a four-run rally in the fifth inning.
Back-to-back walks from Christian Friedrich to Matt McKenry and Clint Barmes started the fifth-inning Bucs' threat. After Bedard sacrificed them over, an Alex Presley groundout would score McKenry from third. With two outs, the Pirates when then go on a hitting spree to add three more. Drew Sutton singled home Barmes to make it 3-2. Sutton would go from first to third on a single by Andrew McCutchen and would then come home on a wild pitch. Casey McGehee would put a bow on the rally by singling home McCutchen. The Pirates' All-Star had another big night, going two for four at the dish and scoring two runs. His 442-foot bomb down the left-field line was one of a bigger blasts you'll see this season.
James McDonald will go for the series-clinching win on Wednesday afternoon in the finale. He'll be opposed by Jeremy Guthrie.
