MLB Trading Deadline: Pirates Among Teams Interested In Stephen Drew, According To Report

The Pirates are among three teams interested in Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi.

Drew has hit .192 with no homers, three RBIs and a .496 OPS in 15 games so far this season after returning on June 27 from an ankle injury suffered last July. Before his injury last year, he was hitting .252 with five homers, 45 RBIs and a .713 OPS. The injury cost him the rest of the 2011 season. Drew's best season at the plate was 2008, when he hit .291 with 21 home runs, 67 RBIs and an .835 OPS.

The Pirates' reported interest likely has a lot to do with the struggles of Clint Barmes. So far this season, the free agent acquired in the offseason is hitting just .205 with four homers, 24 RBIs and a .521 OPS in 82 games. With Drew not performing well only weeks after returning from a major injury, however, it's debatable whether he would be an improvement at short for the Bucs, although he has a history of hitting reasonably well.

The other teams listed as possible destinations for Drew were the Tigers and Red Sox.
