Pirates Roster: Bucs Demote Eric Fryer, Recall Matt Hague

A few bits of Pirates personnel news from late Friday and early Saturday:

↵

-P- The Pirates demoted catcher Eric Fryer and recalled first baseman Matt Hague. Fryer was on the roster because of a minor injury to starting catcher Rod Barajas, and he doesn't figure to be part of the Pirates' long-term plans. Hague probably isn't either, and he hasn't hit much this season in Indianapolis, but he's a better hitter than Fryer.

↵

-P- Also, relievers Doug Slaten and Chris Leroux have cleared waivers and will join Fryer in Class AAA Indianapolis. It's a mild surprise that Leroux cleared waivers, since he had an excellent season last year. He's missed the whole season so far with arm problems, though, and maybe other teams weren't too excited by his rehab appearance. In any case, he could prove to be quality depth for the Pirates.
