Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen will replace the Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton in the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby, MLB officials announced Saturday night.
McCutchen, who is also making his second appearance in the All-Star Game will take part in the derby, which is scheduled to be held on Monday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City at 8 p.m. EST. Nearing the midway point of the season, the 25-year-old leads the majors with a .359 batting average and his 16 home runs and 56 RBI place him sixth in the National League in both categories. He hit 23 home runs last season, a career high.
Stanton is unable to participate because of a right knee injury sustained earlier this week.
