Pirates To Replace Erik Bedard From Within Organization

After the Pittsburgh Pirates released pitcher Erik Bedard, the Pirates are looking to see who could replace him. Bedard's spot in the rotation does not come up for the next five games so the team has time to consider who will replace him.

Manager Clint Hurdle told reporters that one option is to move pitcher Kevin Correia (9-8, 4.53 ERA) back into the starting rotation. Other options include prospects Jeff Locke and Kyle McPherson. When asked if the team might pursue outside players such as Mark Buehrle or even Roger Clemens, Hurdle immediately quashed those rumors by stating, "Our focus starts in-house."

The Pirates open a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. The Pirates currently stand one game back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the final wild card spot in the National League.
