Kevin Correia's departure from the Pirates' rotation when the Bucs added Wandy Rodriguez was controversial, but it appears that Correia will still get to make a start or two with the team as it marches deeper into the fog.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has announced that Correia will start against the Diamondbacks on August 8.
The Pirates' series against the Reds, which began Friday, marked the start of a span of 20 straight days without a day off. On top of that, Pirates starters James McDonald and Erik Bedard have been shaky recently. So the Bucs will give Correia a start and give everyone else an extra day of rest.
That means the Pirates' starting pitchers for the Bucs' four-game home set against Arizona (which begins Monday at 7:05) will be Bedard, Jeff Karstens, then Correia, then Rodriguez. McDonald and then A.J. Burnett would then presumably be up next to start against the Padres next Friday and Saturday.
It appears the Diamondbacks will start Wade Miley, Patrick Corbin, Ian Kennedy, and Joe Saunders, respectively.
