Brewers Vs. Pirates: Kyle McPherson Makes 1st Start For Bucs

The Pittsburgh Pirates will try to even their series against the Brewers on Wednesday after being shut out in the series opener.

A win by the Cardinals on Tuesday pushed the Bucs 3½ games back in the Wild Card, with almost no margin for error over the final two weeks of the season. For Game 2, Pittsburgh will turn to Kyle McPherson, who will be making his first MLB start. McPherson has appeared in seven games out of the bullpen since the mid-August, posting a 1.54 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11⅔ innings pitched. He walked two and gave up a run in his one appearance against the Brewers.

Milwaukee will counter with Marco Estrada, who's 3-6 with a 3.77 ERA this season. Estrada threw a shutout into the seventh inning in his last start against the Braves, and he's been a steady member of the Brewers' rotation in the second half of the season. He has a 2.84 ERA in two starts against the Bucs this year.

First pitch at PNC Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET and ROOT Sports will have the broadcast.
