Earlier in the year, it looked as though Charlie Batch’s career might end quietly.
After his performance in Sunday’s win, though, he’s earned his first consecutive start since 2005 — even with a healthy Byron Leftwich expected to be available.
“Guys have a great deal of confidence in him,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. “He’s a man who’s taken advantage of an opportunity, and you’ve got to be happy for him. It’s an awesome lesson learned for our young players, one I hope they’re taking heed to. This league is about perseverance, this profession is about perseverance and taking advantage of opportunities when they’re given. He’s given them a shining, clear-cut example of that at this juncture.”
With the Steelers having their bye during week five, along with Ben Roethlisberger being eligible to return following this weekend, Batch’s career resurgence will probably again take a backseat role following Sunday’s game.
