A 68-yard Rashard Mendenhall run put the Steelers right back inside the ten yard line looking to take a three touchdown lead over the Jaguars. Mendenhall hit the hole and quickly burst into the second level before cutting left to get outside. He bolted down the sideline inside the ten before he was tackled on the four yard line.
A facemask penalty put the ball on the two yard line where the Steelers would not be able to punch it in for their third touchdown of the game. On second and goal, Ben Roethlisberger hit Hines Ward on a quick slant in the end zone but the ball would go through Ward’s hands and fall incomplete. On what analyst Dan Fouts called Ben’s “first bad pass of the day,” Roethlisberger would overthrow an open Antonio Brown coming across the end zone. The Steelers would settle for the field goal and a 17-0 lead.
